Rangers are hoping to lure goalkeeper Jak Alnwick to Ibrox this month.
Rangers could land another new signing before Tuesday’s transfer deadline as they pursue a deal for Port Vale goalkeeper Jak Alnwick.
HITC Sport understand that Rangers made a move for Alnwick on Friday, and whilst the Gers activated a £250,000 release clause in the player’s contract, Port Vale chairman Norman Smurthwaite told STV that the ‘terms were not acceptable’.

Rangers will be hoping to iron out any issues in the deal ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline, given that current backup goalkeeper Matt Gilks is set to join Wigan Athletic, as HITC reported on Friday.
Should Rangers tie up a deal for Alnwick, he would head to Ibrox to compete with Wes Foderingham for a spot in Mark Warburton’s team, whilst he would also reunite with former Newcastle United team-mate James Tavernier.
Port Vale’s Jak Alnwick
Alnwick – who even played alongside Rangers attacker Martyn Waghorn in the Sunderland youth setup – made just eight first-team appearances for Newcastle before leaving in the summer of 2015 having been released by the Magpies.
The 23-year-old shot stopper ended up at Port Vale, and after establishing himself as their first-choice goalkeeper last season, he continued between the sticks this term, emerging as one of League One’s top goalkeepers.
With Rangers moving to land Alnwick, Port Vale fans took to Twitter to give their reaction to the news – and it’s clear just how highly they rate Alnwick given some of the responses.
Some slammed the club for only having a release clause worth £250,000 in his deal, as he should be worth closer to £1million, with the goalkeeper praised for being ‘outstanding’ this season.
Others acknowledged that a move to Rangers is just too big to turn down for Alnwick, and whilst they would wish him the best of luck in Glasgow, they think that he would be a huge, huge loss for Michael Brown’s side having impressed so much at Vale Park.
