Nottingham Forest fell to a 2-0 defeat against Leeds United at Elland Road.

Nottingham Forest fans have taken to Twitter to voice their frustration at the continued absence of Apostolos Vellios from the entire matchday squad after they lost 2-0 away at Leeds on Wednesday night.

Forest went into the game at Elland Road off the back of their first win since early December – they beat Bristol City 1-0 on Saturday – while Leeds were looking to bounce back following their loss to Barnsley at the weekend.

And Gary Brazil’s men looked like they may be capable of making it two wins from two as the team currently 19th in the Championship gave the play-off contenders a scare, most notably with Britt Assombalonga asking a serious question of Rob Green.

However, the veteran managed to glance the striker’s vicious strike over the bar to keep the game goalless. But shortly after the start of the second-half, Forest were made to pay.

Chris Wood bagged a scrappy goal from a corner before Souleymane Doukara scored one of the goals of the season with just over 15 minutes to go.

While nothing could be done about the second, the supporters were frustrated with the team selection as it was struggling signing Nicklas Bendtner and 17-year-old Ben Brereton who were brought on to try and give Forest more fire power as the game went on.

Meanwhile, mystery continues to surround the continued absence of joint-top goalscorer Apostolos Vellios. The forward recently took to Twitter to deny that he was leaving the club or injured, and yet he has still not featured since the FA Cup defeat to Wigan earlier in the month.

And given that his record of six goals in 22 games is just as good as any other player’s in the side – especially when you consider that the former Everton man has started just 12 times – Forest fans are arguably right to question why he is not in the squad.
