You don’t need to be an expert in Midlands’ sporting history to realise that Aston Villa and Birmingham City don’t exactly ‘get on’.
Villa have spent big and spent well for the most part, adding backbone to a weak midfield with the high-profile additions of Henri Lansbury and Conor Hourihane.
As for Birmingham? Well, they’re just looking for anything to distract from a dismal run of form in the league and a sense of gnawing regret coupled with the realisation that maybe, in hindsight, they’d have been better off not sacking Garry Rowett.
And what better pick-me-up than the Ivorian international who needs minutes after his spell on the South Coast was wrecked by a cruciate ligament injury? He has history at Championship level, winning Leeds United’s Players Player of the Year award at the end of an 18 goal season in 2010/11.
The Sun add that Gradel would prefer to stay in the Premier League but, above all, is desperate for first-team football after a £4 million move to Watford fell through.
However, if it’s game time he wants, he would almost be guaranteed it at Villa or Birmingham and the fans are rather excited at the prospect of watching one of the greatest second tier players this side of the century strut their stuff on the wing.
if I remember rightly Max Gradel was really good pre-Bournemouth injury but big injury + age for a winger make him a sub par target IMO— Elliott Griffiths (@ElliottBCFC) January 26, 2017
I'd take Gradel and also story says we're interested in Barrow. I'd take both tbh— Chris (@Chris96bcfc) January 26, 2017
Where is the Max Gradel link coming from? Patchy career, but he has ability. Slight upgrade on Ayew?— Big D (@brain_sauce) January 26, 2017
