West Ham United appear to be closing in on a deal to sign Southampton captain Jose Fonte.
A report in the Daily Mail has suggested that West Ham’s bid for Jose Fonte that has been accepted by Southampton is worth £8 million and the Hammers are preparing to put a contract offer on the table for the 33-year-old.
The Saints skipper was the subject of a £7 million offer from the Irons earlier in the window, the Mail reports. However, that offer was knocked back by the south coast club.

But now the Mail is suggesting that after West Ham increased their bid slightly, the two sides have reached an agreement.
The Mail adds that the Hammers are expected to put a contract on the table that would see the Portuguese earn £65,000 a week at the London Stadium.
With Fonte handing in a transfer request, and with his contract at St Mary’s entering its final 18 months (via Mail), Claude Puel will probably be pleased that an end to the saga appears to be in sight.

Though Maya Yoshida has performed well lately alongside Virgil van Dijk, Fonte’s departure happening in the coming days would still leave the Frenchman with more than enough time to bolster his options if he feels it is necessary.
Meanwhile, West Ham will be hoping that if they get a deal done for Fonte, he can settle in quickly and prove almost immediately why the club decided to spend £8 million on him while also handing him a lucrative contract.
