A report suggests Wolverhampton Wanderers have joined Queens Park Rangers in the race to sign the Everton striker.

Everton are demanding a fee plus cash to cover ‘ a chunk’ of Arouna Kone’s wages before allowing him to leave on loan, according to a report on page 47 of Tuesday’s Sun newspaper.

Queens Park Rangers have been linked with a move for the 33-year-old this month, however the report also lists Wolverhampton Wanderers as a potential destination.

And with West London Sport reporting on Monday that Everton’s demands for Kone – who is said to earn £40,000 a week at Goodison Park – have forced the R’s to look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements, Wolves may have climbed to the front of the queue.

Wolves manager Paul Lambert is believed to want to add to his front line, having seen his strikers contribute just one Championship goal between them since August.

And the Molineux side, who are backed by Chinese conglomerate Fosun International, have already begun clearing the decks with Prince Oniangue following Ola John out of the club this week.

QPR are also allowing players to leave as Ian Holloway looks to reshape the squad he inherited from Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink in November, on a budget.

German striker Sebastian Polter and Brazilian midfielder have already made overseas moves this month.
