With Jordan Pickford set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines through injury, how much will Sunderland miss the highly-rated goalkeeper?

After falling into yet another relegation battle, Sunderland fans haven't had much to cheer about this season. As the club lingers closer and closer towards a potential relegation to the Championship, Sunderland fans will have been hoping that January could have been a month to strengthen, as they fight to stop the drop.

However, with funds being confirmed to be virtually non-existent, David Moyes is faced with the tough task of having to sell to be able to buy, leading to an interest in some of the Black Cats' best players. One of which, is young England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who has been outstanding between the sticks for Sunderland this season. With funds being limited, Moyes may be forced to sell Pickford, if the right price came in; a move that might well doom his team to the drop.

With this in mind, HITC Sport decided to ask Sunderland fans for their thoughts on their young keeper, and his future at the Stadium of Light.

One Sunderland fan remarked that his recent injury, which could see the goalkeeper out for up to a month, is a "massive, massive blow" for the club. "He's the best shot stopper I've seen" added another.

Compared to Sunderland's other keeper, Vito Mannone, Black Cats fans feel pretty confident that the young England international is the better player. One fan remarked that although "Mannone controls his box better, Pickford is by far a better shot stopper" - something Sunderland might be needed to do a lot of in the coming months.

"We've got to keep hold of him, he's the future of the club" another Sunderland fan.
