Five-year run finally over? Mark Lawrenson predicts Tottenham Hotspur v West Bromwich Albion

Mark Lawrenson is backing Tottenham Hotspur to beat West Bromwich Albion 2-0 this afternoon.

Pundit Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that he thinks Tottenham Hotspur will beat West Bromwich Albion 2-0 at White Hart Lane this afternoon.

Spurs head into the game having beaten Aston Villa 2-0 in the FA Cup last weekend, and their Premier League form has catapulted them back into contention for the Premier League title.

With five wins in a row, including a victory over Chelsea in their last game, Spurs are on a roll right now, and Mauricio Pochettino's men are finally playing their best football.

Today, Spurs take on West Bromwich Albion at White Hart Lane, and will be looking to beat the Baggies at home for the first time since January 2012, with West Brom holding a five-year unbeaten run at White Hart Lane.

Last season, West Brom effectively ended Tottenham's title hopes with a 1-1 draw in North London, and Tony Pulis will again be looking to frustrate Spurs this afternoon.

Pulis is also looking for a response having lost 2-1 at home to Derby County in the FA Cup last weekend, but pundit Mark Lawrenson doesn't expect them to get much out of their trip to the capital, suggesting that their five-year unbeaten run at White Hart Lane is coming to an end.

Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that he thinks Tottenham will win the game 2-0, with midfielder Dele Alli – who has hit seven goals in his last four games – particularly impressing.

Lawrenson added that West Brom will create chances against Spurs after wasting so many against Derby last weekend, but may find it tough to score goals against Tottenham's impressive defence.

“West Brom went out of the FA Cup to Championship side Derby last weekend but they had enough shots - 28 to seven for the Rams - to win that game,” said Lawrenson. “The Baggies will create chances at White Hart Lane too and will make it difficult for Tottenham, as they do against every team.”

“But I still expect Tottenham to win, because they are absolutely flying right now. Dele Alli is on fire for Spurs and the game must seem so easy to him at the moment. He made the difference in their win over top-of-the-table Chelsea in their last Premier League game, when he stood out from every other player on the pitch. When Alli is in that kind of form, Spurs are hard to stop,” he added.
