Video: Sunderland fans on Jermain Defoe's future

Sunderland's Jermain Defoe looks dejected

With West Ham having seen a bid rejected for Jermain Defoe last week, what would it take to prize the striker from the Stadium of Light?

After publicly stating that the club has little to no money to spend in this January transfer window, David Moyes is facing a very bleak January. Desperately in need of funds in which to bring in reinforcements, the Black Cats may well be forced to sell some of their players to raise the money.

However, with his Sunderland side underachieving, only a select few Black Cats players are suspected to be gaining any interest from other clubs, and these are most notably their better players, who Moyes will be keen to keep hold of, to aid their relegation battle.

One of these players is Captain and top scorer, Jermain Defoe. The former Spurs striker has recently received interest from West Ham, and after their bid was rejected, the Black Cats are expected to face more interest in their striker over the coming weeks.

So, will Defoe be leaving the Stadium of Light this month? HITC Sport asked Sunderland fans for their views on their captain's future.

"No way is he going!" replied one Sunderland fan, who was adamant their Captain will not be leaving this month. "He's too attached to this club to leave" replied another " he loves this club". A major factor in football these days, but will Defoe be looking for one more big contract at a London club, to see him into his late 30s?

Other Sunderland fans also suggested that £20 million would not be enough to prize Defoe away, and that even if the club were to be relegated, the striker's sale would fetch an eye-wateringly high price.
