Report: Christian Benteke not interested in West Brom move, turned them down in summer because of Aston Villa connection

The striker's Villa connections are one reason that he did not move to the Hawthorns in the summer.

West Bromwich Albion's reported interest in Christian Benteke looks unlikely to go anywhere, as the Mirror report that the striker has no interest in a move to the Hawthorns.

Albion have been linked with Benteke in recent days after it was suggested that new Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce could look to offload the striker to free up January funds.

Benteke only moved to Selhurst Park last summer in a £27 million deal, and has scored eight goals in 18 Premier League appearances for the Eagles this term.

However, it was still suggested that Palace could look to push the striker out of the door as Allardyce looks to put his own stamp on the team.

One club credited with an interest in the Belgian striker are West Brom, with talk that Albion could look to engineer a part-exchange deal to swap Benteke with Saido Berahino.

Any talk of a move to the Hawthorns for Benteke could have just been quashed, however. The Mirror insists that Benteke is happy at Selhurst Park and has no desire to move.

It seems he is particularly against a move to Albion. The paper goes on to claim that Benteke turned down a potential move to the Hawthorns last summer before joining Palace, a decision that the Mirror says was partly based on his status as an ex-Aston Villa hero.

Benteke, despite hi struggles at Liverpool, is a top-quality Premier League striker for clubs outside of the top six and would be a valuable addition to most sides.

However, it appears as though for West Brom, any dreams of bringing in the big Belgian may be about to die.
