Rangers have snapped up Arsenal playmaker Jon Toral on loan until the end of the season.

New Rangers signing Jon Toral has told The Scottish Sun that he spoke to Mikel Arteta before completing a move to Ibrox this afternoon.

Rangers may have landed Emerson Hyndman on loan from Bournemouth earlier this season, but manager Mark Warburton was still keen to add another midfielder – and he got his man this afternoon.

The Gers have swooped to sign Arsenal playmaker Jon Toral on loan until the end of the season, handing the Spaniard a reunion with Rangers manager Mark Warburton.

The pair worked together at Brentford during the 2014-15 campaign, with Toral notching six goals and two assists for the Bees before heading on loan to Birmingham City and most recently Granada.

Now, Toral heads to Ibrox, and is in line to make his Rangers debut in Sunday's friendly against German side Leipzig, with Warburton no doubt hoping to see the 21-year-old make an instant impact.

Ahead of that game and having completed his move, Toral has spoken to The Scottish Sun about his switch, revealing that he spoke to ex-Rangers ace and former Arsenal team-mate Mikel Arteta.

Arteta – now on Pep Guardiola's coaching staff at Manchester City – spent two years with Rangers, scoring 14 times in 68 games before moving on to Real Sociedad, Everton and Arsenal.

Now, Toral, who was also on the books at Barcelona just like Arteta, has revealed that his fellow Spaniard told him that Rangers are a big club and that they would look after him during his loan spell – and his comments made him feel great about joining the Gers.

“I spoke to Mikel Arteta as well and he told me I would enjoy my time here, so that helped me take the decision,” said Toral. “He told me how big this club is and how well looked after I would be here. That’s good to know from players who have been here in the past. Playing in front of 50,000 fans every week is only going to make me better and help set me up for the rest of my career,” he added.

Do you think Toral is a good signing for Rangers?
