Chesterfield captain Gary Liddle has agreed terms on a move to Carlisle United, HITC Sport understands.

Carlisle boss Keith Curle was keen to the 30-year-old to his promotion seeking squad, with Chesterfield accepting they cannot keep hold of him.

Liddle joined The Spireites nearly 12-months ago and has been a key figure of their side since, but now he is set to move on with their caretaker boss Ritchie Humphreys accepting that he is leaving.

A number of clubs had shown an interest in taking Liddle but it came down to a fight between Carlisle and one of his former clubs Hartlepool United.
