Report: Liverpool lining up bid for highly-rated 19-year-old Italian midfielder

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp is reportedly focusing his recruitment towards the signing of younger players.

Reports emanating from Italy today suggest that the Reds are considering a bid for highly-rated Juventus midfielder Francesco Cassata, according to Italian media outlet Sky Sports Italia.

The 19-year-old is currently spending the season on loan with Serie B side Ascoli, where he has made 19 appearances, and chipped in with one goal.

Sky Sports Italia claim that Jürgen Klopp has instructed his scouting team to closely monitor the progress of Cassata this season, and they have so far been impressed with what they have seen.

Although the youngster is by no means the finished article, he is incredibly talented, and the potential he has to reach the highest level is something that would appeal to Klopp.

He is a wonderful passer of the football and cool and composed when in possession, and possess many of the attributes that the Reds would be looking for in a midfielder.

The report claims that Liverpool would be more likely to make an offer in the summer, as Cassata continues his development on loan at Ascoli.

Respected Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has added weight to the report, by claiming that Liverpool are prepared to offer £8.7 million for the teenager.
