The 22-year-old is highly regarded in his homeland, and his impressive performances for the Bundesliga outfit this term have drawn the attention of some of Europe's biggest clubs.
The Germany under-21 international can play anywhere along the front-line, and even in a deeper lying midfielder role, although he has been utilised in an advanced position for Freiburg on the most part this season.
And Sport Bild suggest that Arsenal and Tottenham have been watching the youngster, by claiming that both clubs are 'coming' for him, after he was featured in a column highlighting the hottest talents in the Bundesliga.
He stands at 6 ft tall, although he doesn't yet possess the physical strength that would required in order to be a success in England.
That is something that will come with time though, and his intelligent understanding of the game , aligned with his clinical finishing gives him the ideal platform from which he can work to become a top-class player.
Maximilian Philipp in action
Both north London clubs are currently embroiled in a battle for the Premier League title, and it is unlikely that either side will be looking to strengthen this month.
The summer transfer window, however, will be a different story, and if Philipp continues his fine run of form, his stock in the game will only rise, and Spurs and Arsenal will most probably face even stiffer competition in the race to sign the 22-year-old.
