Rotherham United have rejected a bid from Championship rivals Huddersfield Town for Danny Ward, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Ward has been Rotherham's shining light this season for the struggling Millers with the South Yorkshire side marooned at the bottom of the Championship table.

The 25-year-old has scored nine goals for Rotherham despite their struggles and his form has not gone unnoticed elsewhere.

The likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich Town, Derby County and Wolverhampton Wanderers have all been credited with an interest in the talented attacker.

However, Huddersfield tried to steal a march on their rivals by tabling a £1million bid for Ward, but Rotherham have turned down the offer.

Huddersfield were keen to bring Ward back to the club after he enjoyed a four-year spell at the club between 2011 and 2015 before moving to Rotherham.

Ward is out of contract at the end of the season at the New York Stadium, but Rotherham are under no huge pressure to cash in on him now as they hold an option to extend his deal by another year.

However, Rotherham are bracing themselves for more bids for Ward before the close of the transfer window.
