Leeds United are reportedly targeting a new striker, but could the Watford forward fill the void?

The Yorkshire Evening Post previously reported that Leeds United boss Garry Monk was targeting signing a new striker during the January transfer window, but with his current options currently doing well, perhaps he can afford for the potential new signing to be more of a wildcard.

One man who has just come onto the market is Watford starlet Jerome Sinclair. The Daily Mail is reporting that the Hornets are ready to allow the 20-year-old to move out on loan after he struggled for opportunities during the first half of the campaign.

Therefore, it may be a mistake for Monk to not at least consider targeting the youngster.

With Chris Wood performing so well this term, while the likes of Kemar Roofe and Souleymane Doukara have shone at times and Marcus Antonsson has shown the occasional glimpse of quality, it is perhaps not essential for Monk to bag a marquee name, especially as his preferred system sees just one player used up front, and thus, he could take a gamble on a less-established name.

The fact that Sinclair developed his game at Liverpool certainly suggests that he does have some potential, and that fact is supported by the fact that Watford spent £4 million (via Goal) on a player who had not started a single league game before moving to Vicarage Road.

And a potential run in the Leeds side may be what is required to start bringing the best out of Sinclair, and if the move does not work out, Monk still has several options to call upon.

But if Sinclair does begin to realise his potential at Elland Road, he may perhaps be an addition that boosts the Whites’ promotion hopes significantly.
