Former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson suggested on the Gillette Soccer Special show on Sky Sports News HQ on Monday afternoon (broadcast from 12pm, January 2, 2016) that there is not a lot of difference between Chelsea star Willian and Tottenham Hotspur ace Dele Alli.
Willian, who can operate as a winger or as an attacking midfielder, has been one of the best players for Chelsea so far this season.
The Brazil international has scored five goals and created 33 chances in 15 Premier League appearances for the Blues so far this campaign.
The 28-year-old former Shakhtar Donetsk and Anzhi Makhachkala attacker will be a key player for Chelsea against Tottenham in the Premier League this evening.
Spurs midfielder Alli is also expected to feature in the London derby at White Hart Lane in a few hours’ time.
The 20-year-old England international has scored eight goals and created 27 chances in 18 Premier League so far this season.
Former Arsenal attacker Merson believes that there is not a lot of difference between Willian and Alli.
“Yeah, I would say so, I would say so,” said Merson on the Gillette Soccer Special show on Sky Sports News HQ on Monday afternoon (broadcast from 12pm, January 2, 2016) when asked if Willian is Chelsea’s Alli. “I don’t think there is a lot between them two.”
Chelsea are at the top of the Premier League table at the moment with 49 points from 19 matches, five points clear of second-placed Liverpool.
Meanwhile, Tottenham currently find themselves fifth in the standings with 39 points from 19 games, just two points behind fourth-placed and bitter North London rivals Arsenal.
