HITC Sport understands Reading are facing a battle to keep hold of talented youngster.

A number of clubs in England and Scotland are monitoring highly-rated midfielder Liam Kelly's contract situation at Reading, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Kelly, who has come through the ranks at Reading, has broken into the first-team under Jaap Stam this season and he has grabbed his opportunity with both hands with a number of eye-catching displays.

The 21-year-old has started Reading's last three games in the Championship as they picked up wins against Blackburn Rovers and Norwich City to keep their promotion bid on track.

Kelly has made 13 appearances in all competitions for Reading this season and the midfield schemer has established himself as a key member of Stam's first-team plans this term.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international's progress at Reading has not gone unnoticed among other clubs with several Premier League, Championship and Scottish Premiership sides all keeping tabs on Kelly.

Kelly, who has been likened to Swansea's Leon Britton for his style of play, is out of contract at the Madejski Stadium next summer and he has yet to agree a new deal to extend his stay at Reading.

News of his contract situation has alerted Kelly's suitors who are ready to pounce for the midfielder if he does not sign a new deal at Reading.
