Henry has big expectations from Arsenal duo Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil if they are to get the contracts they want

Speaking to Sky Sports, former Arsenal star Thierry Henry has claimed that Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez must score a hattrick each week if they are to justify their reported wage demands.

Both players have been the star men for the Gunners this season as they have challenged at the top of the Premier League table.

They are both in the last 18 months of their contracts at the club and negotiations over new deals have been on-going for some time.

A deal for either has yet to be reached, with reports in recent weeks claiming that the players are demanding huge wages to stay at the Emirates.

The debate has been fierce about whether the Gunners should offer what the player’s want and Henry believes they would have to be scoring hattricks every week to justify the rumoured figures.

"At the moment they are holding the club hostage,” he told Sky Sports.

“They are amazing players but if they are on that amount of money, I want a hat-trick every week - and also when there’s no game!”

"You need to be in a situation where you’ve won something already for the club to ask for that amount of money."

It will certainly be interesting to see what Arsenal do regarding the current standoff with Ozil and Sanchez over their contracts.

The players are undoubtedly vital to the club’s future and their aspirations of being contenders for trophies now and in future.

However, they cannot be allowed to hold the club to ransom and if no deal can be reached it would not be surprising to see one or both depart next summer.
