Klavan and Lovren were crucial in Liverpool's narrow win over Everton.
Liverpool duo Sadio Mane and Jordan Henderson both praised the efforts of Ragnar Klavan and Dejan Lovren for their role in Monday night's 1-0 win over Everton in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, in interviews with liverpoolfc.com.
Mane's stoppage time winner was enough to move the Reds into second place, six points behind leaders Chelsea.
The Reds' defence has come in for a lot of criticism this season but they managed to limit Everton to just one shot on target throughout the game.
Henderson told the official Liverpool website: “The two centre-halves especially were fantastic. They were brilliant. I thought, to be honest, we defended well as a team throughout the game and we looked more solid which was pleasing."
Mane commented on how they dealt with the threat of Romelu Lukaku, telling liverpoolfc.com: "They did a great job today because Lukaku is one of the best in this league."
The consensus in recent weeks seems to have been that Liverpool's defence is better with the presence of Joel Matip. However Lovren and Klavan seem to have formed an effective partnership in the past two games which has seen back-to-back clean sheets.
It was hard to fault Lovren and Klavan, who did a large amount to weather an early storm from Everton and gave them very few chances, and they grew more and more comfortable as the game went on.
What is more impressive is that it has come at a time when there has been a change of goalkeeper too, which could easily unsettle any defence.
Instead Liverpool's pairing were stubborn and did not give their opponents much to go off.
