Southampton starlet shares the club's target for tricky upcoming week

Southampton manager Claude Puel speaks to Sam McQueen

Southampton are looking to climb the table and force their way inside the top six.

During an interview with the club's official website, Saints youngster Sam McQueen has explained how he and his teammates are targeting a return of six points from their back-to-back away games against Stoke City and Bournemouth over the next four days.

Claude Puel's men have endured an inconsistent start to their 2016/17 Premier League campaign, and currently sit in 10th position in the table, after an even split of five wins, five draws, and five defeats from their opening 15 outings.

And McQueen highlighted the importance of Southampton's next two games, as they look to climb the league table, as quoted by southampton.com:

“Sunday’s win gives confidence to the whole team, we’ll all be happier now heading into the next game against Stoke City. They are both difficult games, but we feel that they are both winnable away games for us. So we’re not going in with any attitude other than to get the six points from those two matches and make it a really good week."

The south coast club earned a valuable three points on Sunday with their vital 1-0 win over Middlesborough - something that they desperately needed following the disappointment of being dumped out of the Europa League on Thursday night.

Their back-to-back away games are followed by successive home games against Tottenham Hotspur and West Bromwich Albion respectively, and their fans will be hoping for a healthy points return during the Christmas period, and for their team to begin their subsequent climb up the table.
