Report: Bristol City's Lee Tomlin emerges as shock Marseille target

Tomlin has scored five goals and provided as many assists for Bristol City this season.

Bristol City forward Lee Tomlin has tweeted after France Football named him a surprise target for French giants Marseille.

Tomlin only arrived at Ashton Gate on a permanent £3 million deal in the summer, having impressed on loan last season, and has impressed with five goals and five assists in 22 outings.

France Football - which likens Tomlin to former Marseille player Mickael Pagis - reports that the 27-year-old's efforts have not gone unnoticed, with the Ligue 1 side lodging an approach ahead of the winter transfer window.

And Tomlin posted:

After selling Jonathan Kodjia - a player they plucked from French football in 2015 - to Aston Villa for a Championship record £15 million fee in August, Bristol City's focus is likely to be on incoming deals next month.

And having tied Tomlin to a contract until 2019, the Robins are under little pressure to sell the former non-league star.

Marseille do have previous when it comes to the left-field signing of British players, with Joey Barton, Tyrone Mears and Steven Fletcher each enjoying spells at the Stade Velodrome.
