Newcastle United are favourites to win the Championship this season.

Magpies midfielder Vurnon Anita has urged his side to give Wigan Athletic their full attention when they head to the DW Stadium tomorrow night, as quoted by the Chronicle.

Newcastle returned to winning ways on Saturday with a comprehensive 4-0 win over Birmingham City, after suffering back-to-back Championship defeats, and currently sit top of the table, one point clear of second placed Brighton & Hove Albion.

And with the Latics second from bottom in the league table, Benitez' men will be viewing Wednesday's game as a fantastic opportunity to pick up another three points, but Anita warned his side that they must continue to show the commitment they displayed against Birmingham at the weekend, as quoted by the Chronicle:

“Everybody wants to win against us but I think we put in a good performance and responded well. This is only the start, and we have to keep going. We’ve got two games coming up. We have had our recovery and we go again.”

Following their game against Wigan, Newcastle face a run of extremely winnable games, in the run up to Christmas and on into the new year, including back-to-back home games against Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest respectively.

And if Benitez' side can embark on another lengthly winning run, they could easily forge a sizeable lead at the top of the table as they head into the second half of the season.
