The attacker has been linked with a move from Anderlecht this weekend.

The story

This weekend the Sunday People reported that Sunderland are interested in signing Romanian attacker Nicolae Stanciu.

The Anderlecht star is said to be a £10 million target for David Moyes.

So should they sign him?

Positives

The 23-year-old plays in positions where Sunderland need improvement. Preferably playing just off the striker he can also play out wide and would add great depth to the Sunderland team.

He is also in good form. Since joining Anderlecht in the summer he has impressed in Belgian football – scoring three times in six Europa League appearances.

Negatives

The 23-year-old may be a talent, but is he what Sunderland need for a relegation dogfight. He has no experience of the Premier League and at £10 million would cost most of Sunderland’s January budget.

The verdict

Stanciu is clearly a good player and, in the future, could very well grace the Premier League and thrive.

But right now Sunderland need to bring in players who they know can have an impact in a relegation battle – Stanciu would be a massive gamble.

Sunderland should keep tabs on the player, but signing him in January is probably not the best idea.
