Report: Sunderland lining up move for Nicolae Stanciu

Sunderland manager David Moyes

Sunderland boss David Moyes is said to be keen on the Romanian, who was linked with Southampton in August.

Sunderland are lining up a January move for Anderlecht playmaker Nicolae Stanciu, claims a report in this week's Sunday People.

Stanciu only moved to the Belgian side from Steaua Bucharest in August, but has impressed with five goals and four assists in 20 outings so far.

According to Transfermarkt, Anderlecht paid just shy of £7 million for the 23-year-old, whom the Sunday People claims is now valued at £10 million.

Reports have suggested that Sunderland boss David Moyes will have limited funds to work with next month, although HITC sources understand that a £20 million kitty could be made available.

Saturday's heavy defeat at fellow strugglers Swansea City, which left the Black Cats bottom of the Premier League, is only likely to have increased Moyes' desire to add to his squad this winter.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, Stanciu was close to joining Southampton in the summer, but the Saints instead signed Sofiane Boufal.
