Stefano Okaka’s man of the match performance helped Watford to their first win over Everton in 12 attempts.
Watford fell behind in the 16th minute when Everton’s Romelu Lukaku stole in behind the Hornets’ defence to finish past Heurelho Gomes. The hosts fought back and ended the half on level terms, courtesy of Okaka’s first goal in a Watford shirt.
The powerful forward got on the end of Nordin Amrabat’s cross to apply a smart flick beyond Marten Stekelenburg.
After the break, Sebastian Prodl put the hosts ahead before Okaka grabbed his second of the game. The ex-Fulham man got on the end of Jose Holebas’s corner to turn the ball over the line.
Okaka’s afternoon ended in the 81st minute, as he was replaced by Ben Watson to a standing ovation from the Vicarage Road faithful.
The Italian forward proved a real hassle for Everton on his first home start for the Hornets since his summer move from Anderlecht. Walter Mazzarri will be hoping Okaka can continue his form with Odion Igahlo and Troy Deeney struggling to find the net.
Here is how Watford fans responded on Twitter to Okaka’s display:
