Swansea City defeated Sunderland at the Liberty stadium on Saturday as they eased their relegation problems.

Swansea City picked up an invaluable three points at the weekend as they defeated fellow relegation rivals Sunderland in a 3-0 drubbing. The win, coupled with a number of results with regard to the teams around them, has seen the Welsh side move out of the bottom three.

Gylfi Sigurdsson opened the scoring with a calmly taken penalty, before summer signing Fernando Llorente continued to pay back his price tag with an invaluable double to take the game out of the reach of their opponents.

The three points moved the Welsh side into 17th place with 12 points, above West Ham on goal-difference. Manager Bob Bradley will be pleased with the character his side displayed as they were in desperate need of a victory.

Swansea next travel to face an in form West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday as the Welsh side look to build on their vital win over Sunderland.

Swansea's victory was akin to their result against Crystal Palace recently as they beat the London side 5-4. Fernando Llorente starred in that game, too, as the Swans displayed how dangerous they can be. However against Sunderland they portrayed their attacking intent along with a defensive solidity that has not been seen at the Liberty for a long time.
