Kevin Kilbane criticises Arsenal's Granit Xhaka

Switzerland's Granit Xhaka

Kevin Kilbane criticised the Arsenal man for his penalty concession.

Kevin Kilbane has told BBC Sport that Arsenal's Grant Xhaka "does something stupid" in every game that he plays in.

The Switzerland international conceded a soft penalty against Stoke City at the Emirates on Saturday, which Charlie Adam converted to send the visitors 1-0 up.

It was a clumsy penalty to give away, with Xhaka - a £35 million summer signing - catching Joe Allen with an elbow, though it did look accidental.

Still, the 24-year-old has not been outstanding for Arsenal since joining. In fact, he is only starting regularly because Santi Cazorla is injured.

And Kilbane told BBC Sport midway through the match that the Gunners midfielder has a very clumsy element about him.

"It looked like a penalty to me initially, because Granit Xhaka goes over the top on Joe Allen," said the former Everton man.

"Xhaka does something stupid every game he plays in, he's on the edge for no reason."

Arsenal eventually recovered from the deficit to win 3-1 and move level on points with top-of-the-table Chelsea, who have a game in hand against West Brom at Stamford Bridge tomorrow.

Theo Walcott equalised for the North Londoners on 42 minutes, before second-half goals from Mesut Ozil and Alex Iwobi completed the comeback for Arsene Wenger's side.
