The Hammers were well beaten by Arsenal on Saturday, while the Manchester United midfielder incurred the wrath of his own fans after clumsily bringing down Idrissa Gueye in the dying moments of the following day's 1-1 draw against Everton, conceding a penalty from which his old side equalised through Leighton Baines.
But West Ham haven't been put off, according to the Standard, which claims they have enquired over a temporary deal as they attempt to hoist themselves away from the Premier League's bottom three in 2017.
It adds that Hammers boss Slaven Bilic feels Fellaini could provide some 'much-needed physicality', either as a holding midfielder or to supplement the Croatian's attack.
Granted he's not the most conventional footballer but would signing Fellaini really be that bad? Justified or not, he has racked up in excess of £40 million in career transfer fees and has 73 caps for Belgium, who according to FIFA's rankings are the fifth best international team in the world.
West Ham's fans, it seems, are torn by the prospect.
