Leeds United winger finally got to start for Charlton.

Jordan Botaka’s luck may finally be turning at Charlton Athletic after he was handed his first starting opportunity of the season for the club.

The DR Congo winger has had a frustrating spell for the Addicks since moving on loan, and has been used either as a substitute or not at all.

The change of manager from Russell Slade to Karl Robinson has worked in his favour, with the ex-MK Dons boss deciding to give him a chance.

With Robinson managing against his former team at the weekend, it was a big spot to call Botaka in for, although it did not prove to be a difference making decision.

The FA Cup second round tie ended 0-0 at The Valley, and a replay will be required, with the away side having more shots at goal and more possession than the Addicks.

Botaka’s performance, like many of his at his parent club Leeds United – showed that he is very much a raw player who needs regular football to showcase his potential.

The hope is that now under Robinson’s management, he will finally get the opportunity which Leeds had hoped for when they sent him out on loan. He lasted nearly the whole game, substituted only in stoppage time.

Leeds are flying near the top of the Championship and Botaka should have a major incentive to prove himself at Charlton. If he can’t, the logical conclusion to draw is that he will be moved on next summer.

Here is a look at how Charlton fans reacted to finally seeing Botaka in action for 90 minutes…
