The Hammers were knocked out of the League Cup in devastating fashion, well beaten 4-1 by the Red Devils at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

It was another defeat in what is turning into a nightmare second season in charge for boss Slaven Bilic.

West Ham sit 16th in the Premier League table with just 12 points, were sent tumbling out of Europe in qualifying to Romanian minnows Astra and exited the League Cup at the quarter-final stage.

Simone Zaza was billed as the "marquee" striker signing in the summer as he joined from Juventus on a bizarre loan with an obligation to buy after 14 games for a whopping £25 million.

He has endured a nightmare spell so far failing to muster so much as a shot on target let alone a goal.

Zaza played his ninth game on the way to that frightening prospect when he came on for the last 20 minutes at Old Trafford and infuriated fans when he somehow conspired to concede a throw near the halfway line with one of his shots.

But if that had Hammers fans frothing at the mouth, his next act pushed many over the edge when he immediately sought out Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the final whistle to swap shirts.

The embarrassing moment sent Twitter into meltdown.
