We pick a Tony Pulis XI only featuring players that are 6ft and over.
It is no secret that Tony Pulis likes his players tall.
The Welshman is known for his ability to build well-organised, powerful and direct teams that have plenty of height.
So we have put together a Tony Pulis XI that only features players over 6ft tall.
Ben Foster (6ft 4) has discovered some of his best form in a West Bromwich Albion shirt under Tony Pulis. The keeper was also at Stoke during Pulis’ first spell in charge of the Staffordshire club.
To ensure his defenders all have a commanding presence in the air, Pulis has never been afraid of converting a centre-back to fullback. That is what happened to Craig Dawson (6ft 2). The position change has actually worked in the Dawson’s favour, as he is now a regular in the West Brom side.
Jonny Evans (6ft 2) is another natural centre-back that has been played out wide by Pulis. The composed Northern Ireland international makes the XI at left-back.
Gareth McAuley (6ft 3) and Ryan Shawcross (6ft 3) play in the middle of defence. Pulis was a big admirer of Shawcross during his time at Stoke and made him captain for the 2010/11 campaign.
McAuley has continued to be a trusted starter for West Brom under Pulis. The veteran defender is exactly the type of professional that Albion’s manager likes to have in his squad.
Darren Fletcher (6ft) is the captain of this XI. The West Brom midfielder was one of Pulis’ first signings at the Hawthorns and he played a pivotal in the turnaround of their 2014/5 season.
He is joined in midfield by Steven N’Zonzi (6ft 3). Pulis thought highly of the Frenchman and commented that he could one day play for a Champions League team.
Nacer Chadli (6ft 2) and Yannick Bolasie (6ft 1) play out wide. Chadli has made an instant impact since his arrival from Tottenham in the summer – bagging four goals already this season.
Bolasie gives this XI some much needed flair. The tricky winger was a key part of an exciting counter-attacking Crystal Palace team that Pulis led from relegation battle to a 11th place finish in the Premier League.
Salomon Rondon (6ft 1) has scored thirteen league goals for West Brom since his arrival last summer. The Venezuelan is a model Pulis forward with his strength, work-rate and ability in the air.
This wouldn’t be a giant XI without Peter Crouch (6ft 7). The tallest man in this team joined Stoke in 2011 and went on to net fourteen goals in all competitions during his first season at the club.
