Rodney Marsh makes a joke regarding Dimitri Payet

France's Dimitri Payet celebrates after scoring their second goal

The Frenchman was poor for West Ham United at Old Trafford.

Rodney Marsh has joked that West Ham United need to put Dimitri Payet's picture on the side of milk cartons following his anonymous display last night.

The Irons lost 4-1 in a League Cup quarter-final clash at Manchester United, with Anthony Martial and Zlatan Ibrahimovic both scoring twice for the hosts.

Ashley Fletcher made it 1-1 in the first half but a certain Frenchman was conspicuous by his absence.

The 29-year-old barely seemed both at Old Trafford in a showing which might worry West Ham supporters, with the January transfer window opening in a month.

Before that, though, the Hammers host Arsenal in the Premier League as Slaven Bilic's side look to kick-start what has been a very stop-start season thus far.

And Marsh has joked on Twitter that the East London club ought to register him as a missing person by virtue of his struggles last night.

Payet's first match in English football came against Arsenal, when he inspired Bilic's side to a 2-0 win at the Emirates on the first day of last season, and West Ham will certainly need similar heroics this weekend.
