The defender is vital for Tottenham Hotspur and his absence has been sorely felt.

According to a report from the London Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has completed two double training sessions this week as he bids to get back to full fitness.

The Belgian international has been sorely missed in recent weeks with a knee injury ruling him out of Spurs’ last nine matches in all competitions.

That has culminated in Tottenham winning just one game – the 3-2 victory against West Ham United last month – and the centre-back cannot return soon enough.

The double sessions suggest that Tottenham are working very hard to get the player back on the field yet such is his importance – and the severity of his injury – that they will not rush him back before he is ready.

Tottenham’s next match is against Swansea City on Saturday and it remains to be seen if Alderweireld will be back in time for that match or – more likely – the clash with Manchester United the following Sunday.
