Should Leeds look to sign their EFL Cup conqueror on loan?

Leeds United's EFL Cup run came to an end this week with Liverpool sensation Ben Woodburn netting the second in a 2-0 win.

The Whites gave a great account of themselves in the quarter-final clash, and with better finishing and a slice of luck, they could easily have taken the lead.

This January Leeds are likely to want to supplement their strike force, and bring in a new forward to compete with Chris Wood and Marcus Antonsson, neither of who started at Anfield.

The match showed they lacked a clinical edge without them, and reinforcements are needed if Leeds are to win promotion to the Premier League in a tightly contested promotion race.

What Leeds need is to find a striker who may be content to play second or third fiddle in the pecking order, and that is why a youngster like Liverpool sensation Ben Woodburn would be the ideal addition.

Woodburn has shown he is ready to make an impact in the professional ranks, but Liverpool are likely to want to keep him under wraps.

A loan deal is ideal, and Leeds will have made a good impression this week on Liverpool, to suggest they are a club at which he could flourish, and get used to playing in front of big crowds with high stakes.

Jurgen Klopp has spoken positively about Leeds boss Garry Monk from the ex-Whites' manager at Swansea and could decide that Woodburn will benefit from working under him for a short spell.

For Leeds it would be a signing with little risk and a lot of upside, and if Liverpool are open to considering allowing Woodburn out on loan, they should consider their EFL Cup opponents among the frontrunners.
