Gamez is yet to make an impact at St James' Park, with another injury set to keep him on the sidelines for the foreseeable future.

Stricken Newcastle United defender Jesus Gamez has vowed to come back stronger on Twitter after suffering a collarbone injury on his long-awaited first start for the club.

The versatile defender was stretchered off early in the second half in the Magpies' home defeat to Blackburn Rovers at St. James’ Park on Saturday, bringing a premature end to his full Championship debut after arriving from Atletico Madrid in the summer.

The 30-year-old’s signing was considered quite the coup a couple of months back, although he had hardly been a regular for Diego Simeone’s La Liga title-chasers, but a succession of injuries have undermined his impact on Tyneside so far.

However, the former Malaga skipper has insisted that his short-lived Newcastle career will not be ruined by physical problems and says he will be available for selection again soon.

The Chronicle reported earlier in the week that the defender may be forced to undergo surgery to correct the issue, meaning he would be absent throughout the busy festive schedule.

On the flipside, Achraf Lazaar’s impressive performance against Hull City in the EFL Cup on Tuesday means Rafael Benitez will not necessarily be short of options in the left-back position.
