Newcastle United will be looking for an immediate bounce back after their EFL Cup exit in midweek.

Magpies boss Rafa Benitez has explained the difficulty behind the weight of expectation that his side have to carry, week-in week-out, as quoted by Sky Sports.

Newcastle currently sit at the top of the Championship table, despite their disappointing loss last weekend at home to Blackburn Rovers, and have taken 24 points from their last nine league outings.

And the Spaniard highlighted a key factor in what has made his side's Championship campaign so difficult thus far, as quoted by Sky Sports:

"It's so difficult. Talking also with managers after every game, they are telling me the same. When you expect an easy game, you have a very difficult game; when you expect a difficult game, sometimes it is easier. It changes every week, it changes every game because of the two games a week. The style of football changes too, the team you play against. You have to be ready."

The Tyneside outfit head to the City Ground to take on Nottingham Forest on Saturday, and will be desperate for a win to quickly banish the memories of the loss to Blackburn, and their painful midweek EFL Cup quarter-final defeat to Hull City on penalties.

Following this weekend's game, Benitez' men actually face an extremely winnable set of fixtures, on paper at least.

The average league position of their next five opponents is 13.8, and Newcastle should be looking at this period as a fantastic opportunity to really pull away from the rest, and forge an insurmountable lead at the top of the table.
