Alan Smith praises Sunderland forward Victor Anichebe

Sunderland's Victor Anichebe looks dejected

Sunderland have scored three goals in their last three matches.

Alan Smith has praised Sunderland’s Victor Anichebe on Sky Sports, but admitted that he fears for David Moyes’ side.

Anichebe was brought to Sunderland by Moyes last summer, and he has made a huge impact at the Stadium of Light.

The Nigerian international has taken a while to get up to speed, but he has started in Sunderland’s last three matches and impressed.

Anichebe has helped the Black Cats win two of their last three matches, to inch closer to safety.

And Smith believes it will be vital that Anichebe keeps firing, to give Sunderland any chance of escaping the drop.

“You do fear for them, even after those back-to-back wins,” he said. “You need Jermain Defoe and you need Victor Anichebe firing, especially the latter, who has come from nowhere to show form.”

Anichebe has scored three goals in Sunderland’s last three matches, and he has proven to be a good partner for Defoe.

The former Everton and West Bromwich Albion man’s power has caused opposition defences a number of problems, and increased Sunderland’s attacking threat.

Moyes’ side are still currently in the relegation zone, though, and their next fixture comes against Leicester City at the weekend.
