Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Dario Dumic.

Reported Newcastle target Dario Dumic has declared his intention to leave current club NEC at the end of their domestic season, and move on to bigger things, when speaking during an exclusive interview with Dutch media outlet Voetbal International.

The 24-year-old centre-back actually began his career with Norwich City, oddly enough, before moving to Danish side Brondby in 2010.

He spent six years there before making the switch to the Eredivisie side in 2016.

A succession of fine displays in Holland have led to reports linking him with a move to the Magpies (Football Orange), and Dumic spoke to the Dutch media about the possibility of a move away from NEC, as quoted by Voetbal International:

“The next six months is important, first help NEC to remain in the Premier League. Then we look further, I think I can distinguish myself, but above all I’m defender. My work is to see off attackers, my goal is to keep a clean sheet. Such types I see little here. Ron Vlaar, Héctor Moreno."

Dumic seems to be putting himself on a pedestal with his comments, arguably suggesting that there are not many players in the Eredivisie who possess the qualities that he does.

Will Newcastle take the former Denmark under-20 international's remarks as a come and get me plea?

Rafa Benitez will have to weigh up whether he actually needs another central defender at St James' Park, with the likes of Jamaal Lascelles, Grant Hanley, Ciaran Clarke and Chancel Mbemba already at the club.
