Nottingham Forest’s under-23s were in fine form yesterday as they got the better of Crewe Alexandra in a 4-0 triumph.
One player who again shone for Forest’s youngsters was striker Ben Brereton.
He scored two goals in the game which took his tally to the season so far to 11.
The 17-year-old has certainly been in great form so far this season and is looking like a real prospect for the future at the City Ground.
The City Ground general view before clash with Hull
Forest boss Philippe Montanier has not been shy about bringing in young players to the first-team this season. The likes of Joe Worral and Matty Cash have both benefitted from this fact.
But Forest already have plenty of options up top. Britt Assombalonga is one of the most dangerous strikers in the league when fit, Apostolos Vellios has proven himself dangerous at this level whilst Nicklas Bendtner is also in the first-team.
It is possibly a wise move to keep the teenage striker in the youth set-up for the time being.
That is certainly the idea that most Forest fans had on Twitter for their young talent after yet another impressive display…
We shouldnt put Brereton in now, its like cash and others with the first team, need to cherish them, build them up #NFFC— NotoriousRED (@Bvsnffcsg01) November 30, 2016
The debate over Ben Brereton is pointless. We have 2 strikers who look decent when fit - Britt and Vellios. Goals ain't the problem #nffc— Danny Stewart (@DannyPStewart) November 30, 2016
Why put Brereton in now ?? It’s not scoring goals we have a problem with, in Brazil and Lester we trust !! #nffc— NG9NFFC ☆☆ (@justinslany) November 30, 2016
Lot of talk about Brereton & the first team. Patience is important. Kid is only 17. Give him time to develop. No need to rush him. #nffc— Sutton@NFFC (@mac123_m) November 30, 2016
I wanna see Brereton make the first team squad. I know he's got a lot of competition ahead of him but still, he gets goals. #nffc— Bala #10 (@DizzyBala) November 29, 2016
Pretty sure Ben Brereton has done more too warrant a slot on the bench against Newcastle than Lica #NFFC— Chuck Norrish ⚓ (@norrish88) November 29, 2016
