Liverpool are currently in second place in the Premier League table, after a brilliant start to the season.
With the Reds having a chance to win their first ever Premier League title, the temptation to spend in January to try and strengthen their squad even further is huge.
And Barnes expects Liverpool’s board to back Jurgen Klopp with funds to spend in the new year.
“Absolutely [I expect them to spend]. Considering they are one point off the top going into January,” Barnes said. “Why not have a go? I think they will go out and say we’re so close, and maybe we’re ahead of schedule, but do it now.”
Liverpool have already been linked with a number of players ahead of the January transfer window, with Southampton defender Virgil Van Dijk said to be on Klopp’s wishlist (Daily Star).
Hopes around Anfield are high, with Liverpool proving to be the most dangerous attacking team in the Premier League so far this season.
Liverpool have scored 32 goals in their first 13 matches, and they are currently just one point behind league leaders Chelsea.
Liverpool are next in action at the weekend, when they take on Bournemouth at Dean Court.
