Speaking to talkSPORT, Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson explained how he believes that Liverpool can win the league, if they sign Southampton's star man Virgil van Dijk.
The towering Dutchman has been a revelation for the Saints since his £11.5 million move from St Mary's in September 2015, and is now one of the most highly sought-after defenders in Europe.

And Merson highlighted how much of a difference he would make for Jürgen Klopp's men, should they manage to prise him away from the South Coast, when speaking to talkSPORT:
"They’ve got the firepower going forward, I just don’t think they’ve got it at the back. I know they’ve done it this season so far, but defensively they aren’t going to be good enough against the big teams. But if they can go out and get Van Dijk, I think £50 million, that nearly wins you the Premier League.”

The Reds have been magnificent so far this season, but there have been questions asked regarding their perceived weakness at the back.
Despite bringing in Joel Matip over the summer, Klopp has failed to settle on a consistent partner for the Cameroon international, and there would arguably not be a better partner for him that the 6 ft 4 in Holland international.
Van Dijk's contract with Southampton does not expire until the summer of 2022, however, so Liverpool would have to offer an extortionate amount of money to tempt the Saints into selling one of their prized assets.
