Newcastle's Spanish manager Rafa Benitez has an extensive knowledge of football in his homeland from spells with Valencia and Real Madrid, but even before his time at the club they have raided Spain successfully, signing Ayoze Perez in 2014.

The team are currently top of the Championship and into the quarter-final of the EFL Cup this evening.

To see the club active in the transfer market so early on is an encouraging sign that Newcastle are both investing in the future and refusing to rest on their laurels.
