Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour predicted on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Monday morning (broadcast from 6am, November 28, 2016) that Newcastle United, Brighton & Hove Albion and Sheffield Wednesday will get promoted to the Premier League at the end of the season.
Newcastle are at the top of the Championship table at the moment with 40 points from 18 matches.
Brighton are currently second in the standings with 38 points from 18 games.
Wednesday are outside the playoffs in seventh place, having managed to pick up 28 points from 18 matches.
The Owls are a point behind sixth-placed Huddersfield Town, who are currently sixth in the table and occupy the final playoff spot.
“I have gone for Newcastle and Brighton, the obvious choices,” said Parlour on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Monday morning (broadcast from 6am, November 28, 2016) when asked to pick his three teams to get promoted from the Championship to the Premier League at the end of the season.
“Then I am going to go for a dark horse, I think someone like Sheffield Wednesday, who are just outside the playoffs at the moment.”
Newcastle got relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.
Rafael Benitez’s side are going strong in the Championship at the moment and are firm favourites to clinch the title.
Brighton will face competition for the second and final automatic promotion spot, with Reading and perhaps even Birmingham City eyeing that place.
Wednesday are going to find it very difficult to end up in the top six of the Championship this season.
