Paul Mariner predicts Liverpool v Leeds

Leeds United manager Garry Monk

Is Leeds United's journey going to come to an end tonight?

Paul Mariner has told ESPN that he expects Liverpool to end Leeds United's League Cup journey at Anfield tonight.

Both sides clash on Merseyside for an EFL Cup quarter-final this evening as Leeds look to pull off a huge upset en route to reaching the last four.

The Reds and their Yorkshire counterparts are both bang in form at the moment, with the Whites winning four of their last five Championship games - a 2-0 defeat by top-of-the-table Newcastle being the only blemish - and Jurgen Klopp's side sit second in the Premier League

It was a huge fixture once upon a time but there is every chance that it may be more competitive than it initially seems, with Klopp potentially making a string of changes to his best XI.

Nevertheless, Mariner, who spent two years at Arsenal in the 1980s, says that the top-flight side still should have enough to beat Garry Monk's troops tonight.

He told ESPN: "Back in the day this was massive. Leeds, fifth place in the Championship and going well.

"Liverpool, so many injuries in the forward line. Klopp will have to rotate, but I still think Liverpool will have enough at home."

Leeds' form in the competition this season suggests they could be hard to see off. The Whites have won two of their four matches in the tournament on penalties, suggesting they are perhaps quite resilient.
