Newcastle United visit Hull City in a quarter-final League Cup clash tonight.
Paul Mariner has told ESPN that he expects Newcastle United to beat Hull City at The KCOM Stadium tonight en route to reaching the semi-final of the League Cup.
The Championship leaders travel to Hull on the back of a shock 1-0 home defeat by Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, bringing an end to a nine-match winning streak.
In contrast, Hull, who sit 18th in England's top flight, have only won one of their last nine league outings - and seven of those have been defeats.
The momentum is certainly with Rafael Benitez's side ahead of tonight's clash, and Mariner, who spent two years at Arsenal in the 1980s, backs Newcastle to edge out Mike Phelan's boys this evening.
"Hull City are most definitely struggling in the Premier League, while Newcastle are flying in the Championship," he told ESPN. "I'm going to go with Newcastle - I think the momentum makes them the winner of this game."
It could be something of a win-win tie for Newcastle.
If they win, their fans are 180 minutes away from potentially enjoying a day out in Wembley and possibly winning a trophy, while defeat would allow them focus solely on winning promotion from the Championship for the time being and that has to be of the utmost importance.
