Queens Park Rangers were beaten 2-0 by Ipswich Town at the weekend.

Ian Holloway has revealed at his press conference today that he praised Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Alex Smithies, after his display against Ipswich Town last weekend.

QPR lost 3-0 to Ipswich at Portman Road on Saturday, and Smithies was to blame for the second goal which Holloway’s side conceded.

The goalkeeper came rushing off his line to try and head clear a long ball, but he mistimed his jump and could only divert the ball into the path of the onrushing Luke Varney, who tapped into an empty net.

It was a horrendous error from QPR’s stopper, but Holloway was pleased with the way Smithies reacted afterwards.

Smithies actually did pull off a number of excellent saves to stop QPR falling from an even heavier defeat against Ipswich towards the end of the match.

The R’s were outplayed by Mick McCarthy’s side, and they are now under pressure to bounce back quickly from that disappointment.

QPR are next in action on Thursday evening, when they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers.

If Holloway’s new side are able to win against Wolves they will move up to 10th in the Championship table.
