Aston Villa are now considered to be genuine promotion contenders.

Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce highlighted the need for 'big players' to shine for the club, as expectation levels grow from both their fanbase and the media, as quoted by BBC Sport.

The Villans are in the midst of a fine run of form, after going on an unbeaten run stretching back to Bruce's first game in charge on October 15th, that has seen them rise to 11th position in the Championship table.

And the former Hull City manager explained how those above them in the table will have taken notice of Villa's impressive run of results, as quoted by BBC Sport:

"There'll be a few looking over their shoulders, which is good. But there is a big expectation. You have to be a big player and a good player to handle that expectation."

Bruce's impact on the Villa first-team has been clear for all to see, and other clubs in the Championship will now view their games' against them as a tough fixture, rather than an easy three points.
