Aston Villa boss believes his squad is unbalanced

Aston Villa are well in the mix for play-off contention after a fine run of form.

Speaking on BBC's Radio Five Live Monday Night Club programme, Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce explained how he feels his side is currently unbalanced, and how that is something that he would like to address in the January transfer window.

The Midlands outfit have embarked on quite a remarkable turnaround of form following Bruce's appointment as manager last month, going on a seven game unbeaten run, and rising to 11th in the Championship table - just four points adrift of the play-off spots.

The former Hull City boss spoke to Radio Five Live, and when asked about his transfer plans in January, he highlighted a certain aspect of the squad that needs addressing:

"I think we are a little bit unbalanced. We have got six or seven strikers but are only playing with one, so I think we are unbalanced in that regard. January is always a difficult time to buy but if there is a someone out there who could make a difference to us, then of course I'm in a position where i can act. There's a few positions where I'd like to strengthen but as I said it's always difficult in January."

Bruce has injected a much needed enthusiasm and vigour back into the Villa side over this past month.

A team that looked so bereft of energy and invention under Roberto Di Matteo has been transformed into one of the more exciting sides to watch in the division and, for that, Bruce deserves a lot of credit.

It will be interesting to see where the Villa boss decides to strengthen in January, if he does at all, with the only certainty being that he has the funds available to do so, should he so wish.
