Former West Ham United manager Harry Redknapp said on BT Sport 1 on Saturday evening (November 26, 2016) that Tottenham Hotspur will continue to challenge for the Premier League title this season.
Redknapp made the prediction following Tottenham’s defeat to Chelsea in the London derby on Saturday evening.
Spurs went down 2-1 to the Blues away from home at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side played well in the first half, but they could not match Antonio Conte’s team in the second period.
The defeat on Saturday evening means that Tottenham are now fifth in the Premier League table, as many as seven points behind leaders Chelsea.
Former Tottenham manager Redknapp has backed the North London outfit to continue their challenge for the league title this season.
Rio Ferdinand, though, does not appear to think so, with the former Manchester United defender raising doubts on Spurs’ squad strength.
“I still think Tottenham will be bang there at the end of the season,” said Redknapp on BT Sport 1 on Saturday evening (November 26, 2016). “I do (they will be in the hunt for the title) when everybody’s fit.”
“I don’t know,” said Ferdinand during the discussion on the same show. “I think when you are going to win the league, it’s not about 11 players. I agree with H. Spurs’ first XI when they are all fit can match anyone, but it’s the squad.”
Tottenham have a good squad, but the problem is that Chelsea and Manchester City’s are better. In fact, the Blues and the Citizens have probably the best two squads in the Premier League.
It is going to be tough for Spurs to maintain their challenge for the Premier League title this season, but the North London outfit are certainly in contention of a top-four finish.
