According to The Express, Celtic may choose to take Crystal Palace midfielder Jordon Mutch on loan with a view to buying him at the end of the season, rather than paying up for him in January.

The Bhoys are out of the Champions League after the 2-0 midweek defeat to Barcelona, but they're running away with the league title right now, with Brendan Rodgers' side able to go 11 points clear with a win over Aberdeen on Sunday.

Rodgers will be looking towards the January transfer window for reinforcements, and with the Daily Mail reporting that Portland Timbers ace Darlington Nagbe watched the game against Barcelona ahead of a possible move to Glasgow, it's clear that Rodgers wants to bring in another midfielder.

Last week, the Daily Mail claimed that Celtic are keen on Crystal Palace's Jordon Mutch, in a deal which would allegedly cost £3.5m – and the latest reports claim that the Bhoys may instead look for a loan move in January.

The Express suggest that Celtic may look to make Mutch on loan until the end of the season with a view to a permanent move, with Rodgers potentially keen to test the midfielder out before paying up to sign him.

Mutch, 24, has played just eight minutes in the Premier League for Palace this season, and is behind the likes of Joe Ledley, James McArthur and Yohan Cabaye in Alan Pardew's pecking order.

After a nomadic few years, which have seen him turn out for the likes of Cardiff City, QPR and now Palace, Mutch will be wanting to settle down – and a loan move to Celtic could lead to a permanent deal with the Bhoys.

Given that Celtic need to spend their money wisely, a loan with a view to a permanent move could be ideal for the club, and Mutch should receive more playing time at Celtic than he's getting at Palace.
